Emmitt Perry, Sr. – Tyler Perry’s Father House On Fire

A fire destroyed Emmitt Perry, Sr.’s home.  Emmitt is Tyler Perry’s father.  Tyler purchased the St. Helena Parish, Louisiana home for his father.  Officials report that no one was harmed in the fire.  The fire was so large that fire crews from other towns had to be called.  Emmitt was home when the fire broke out.

Emmitt heard some crackling, popping sounds from the attic.  The fire crews decided to let the fire burn itself out because there’s nothing more they can do.  They had to bring in tanker trucks because of the lack of fire hydrants in the rural area.  The house is not close to any other homes so it does not pose a threat.

Tyler Perry was born Emmitt Perry, Jr.  He changed his name to Tyler to distance himself from his father.  Emmitt, Sr. would beat Tyler when he was younger.  Tyler was able to forgive him in his 20s.  Tyler’s father had a very difficult upbringing.  Emmitt, Sr. and his sister and brother were found in a ditch when he was 2-years-old.

A white man brought Emmitt and his siblings to a 14-year-old.  She was too young to raise three children so she resorted to beating them.  Tyler explains that’s all his father knew.  Emmitt, Sr. didn’t beat Tyler because he hated him he beat him because he thought that was effective parenting.
Like Jay-Z, Tyler was able to forgive his father.  Jay-Z’s father abandoned his family when Jay-Z was very young.  The rapper held a grudge against his father for decades but forgave him before he passed away.
The mansion Tyler bought his father proves that Tyler forgave him.  Emmitt, Sr. was abused his entire life.  This made it easier for Tyler to forgive him.  Tyler also found out that his father didn’t think he was his child.

Forgiveness doesn’t excuse a person’s behavior.  Forgiveness prevents a person’s behavior from destroying your heart.
